ANA-Idaho
Presidential Report
Erica Yager, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, President of ANA-Idaho

National ANA is in full preparation mode for the upcoming Membership Assembly, scheduled to take place in Washington, DC, June 27-28, 2025.

During the business session of the Assembly, delegates from each state vote on proposed amendments to business practices, bylaw changes, and elect new board members. This year, over 170 bylaw amendments have been submitted for consideration.

To help prepare voting delegates, ANA is hosting four ANA Bylaws Pre-Hearing Sessions throughout May and early June. According to the ANA C/SNA website (May 7, 2025), these sessions are designed to “provide a platform for discussion, clarification, and feedback on proposed amendments to the ANA Bylaws prior to the bylaws hearing at Membership Assembly.”

Idaho holds three votes at the Assembly. Typically, we send two delegates, who share the responsibility of casting these votes. To ensure we are well-informed and aligned with the interests of our Idaho constituents, President-Elect Anna Quon and I have been actively participating in these pre-hearing sessions.

One key topic under discussion is the LPN/LVN Membership Amendment, which Idaho has co-sponsored alongside several other states. We’ve already welcomed approximately 100 LPNs into ANA Idaho and anticipate even greater engagement if the amendment passes. We believe in the unified power of nursing, and that includes supporting LPNs alongside RNs.

We look forward to representing Idaho at the 2025 Membership Assembly and will share a full update with our members following the event.

Nurses Week (and Nurses Month) provides a meaningful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the essential role nurses play in our healthcare system.

As dedicated professionals, you work tirelessly on the front lines, often under immense pressure, to deliver compassionate and life-saving care. Your commitment to excellence, empathy, and resilience deserves not only appreciation but also public acknowledgment. Setting aside time each year to focus on your contributions fosters a culture of respect and gratitude that can uplift morale and reinforce the value of their work.

The nursing profession is more than a job—it is a calling. Nurses are drawn to this career by a deep sense of duty to care for others, often sacrificing their own comfort and well-being in the process. You are with patients during some of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their lives – the first breath and the last – offering both clinical skill and emotional support.

Honoring Nurses Week/Month affirms this noble calling, emphasizing that the dedication required to be a nurse is not only understood but deeply respected by the broader community.

Acknowledging the hard work and commitment of nurses is vital not only for their own sense of fulfillment but also for the overall health of the profession. Recognition can bolster job satisfaction, reduce burnout, and inspire the next generation to pursue nursing as a career.

When institutions and individuals take time to appreciate nurses, it sends a powerful message that their labor is seen, valued, and respected—beyond just words, but through meaningful gestures, policies, and support.

Pride in nursing runs deep, and Nurses Week/Month gives nurses a chance to reflect on their impact, their growth, and their unity as a professional community. It is a time to celebrate their achievements, share their stories, and advocate for continued advancement and equity in healthcare. By elevating the voice and presence of nurses during this time, we help ensure their value is embedded in the fabric of our healthcare system and society at large.

On behalf of the ICN and all our membership associations, THANK YOU for the work you do!

Be the Voice of Healthcare in Your District:
Become an NP Legislative Ambassador!
Colleen M Shackelford, DNP, APRN, FNP-C - NPI President

Dear Nurse Practitioners and NP students,

We are launching an exciting new grassroots initiative — and we need YOU.

Imagine every state legislator having a direct connection to a nurse practitioner in their district
— someone they can turn to for insight on healthcare access, workforce needs, and the real-world impact of health policy. That’s exactly what our new NP Legislative Ambassador Program aims to achieve.

We are seeking 35 dedicated NPs — one for each state legislative district — to serve as
ambassadors during the upcoming legislative session. This is your chance to step into a
powerful advocacy role and become the local expert on healthcare issues affecting your
community.

You don’t need to be a policy expert to make a difference. All that’s required is a passion to
get engaged. We will support you every step of the way with mentoring, resources, and training.

To kick off the session, all ambassadors will be invited to attend our NP Policy Conference,
where you’ll learn the most effective strategies for advocacy, relationship-building, and
legislative engagement. You'll leave equipped with the confidence and tools to make your voice heard.

What You’ll Do

  • Spend 15–60 minutes per week during session (January through April) reading legislative updates and staying informed
  • Build a relationship with your district’s Senator and House Representative
  • Serve as a trusted local resource on healthcare issues
  • Advocate for policies that support NPs, improve patient care, and expand access to NP
    care in Idaho

Why This Work Matters

The policies being made at the state level directly impact your daily practice — from scope of
practice laws to reimbursement for the services you provide and access to primary care. Yet,
many lawmakers still don’t understand the full value NPs bring to their communities.
That’s where you come in.

By becoming an NP Legislative Ambassador, you ensure that the people making decisions have
a direct line to the experts who live and work in their districts — you.
If you're passionate about advancing healthcare, ready to engage with your legislators, and want
to be part of a powerful statewide movement, we invite you to volunteer. With your voice, we
can drive meaningful change — one district, one conversation, one policy at a time.
