Position Description

Children’s Cardiology, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is comprised of more than 60 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Senior Manager, Nursing manages all aspects of the Nursing department; to include staff management, clinical policies for the outpatient clinics and collaboration with other clinical operations managers to enhance patient flow and satisfaction. This position serves on the management team as a business partner to members of the management team and the physician leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s in nursing or equivalent nursing leadership experience required. 
  • Minimum 7 years of management experience required. 
  • Minimum 7-10 years clinical experience required; cardiology experience preferred.
  • Current Georgia Registered Nurse and Nurse Licensure Compact license required. Note: Compact License must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Experience with electronic medical record system required; Epic experience a plus.
  • Experience in pediatric cardiology preferred.
  • Must possess a high level of confidentiality and integrity. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required. 
  • Must possess a high level of analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and follow-through discipline.
  • Experience with fiscal responsibilities. 
  • Project management skills; prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the clinical aspects of a complex ambulatory care environment.
  • Accountable for clinic operational activities related to enhancing office efficiencies, workflow, patient flow, patient satisfaction, and cost-effective outcomes for clinical services.
  • Works with nursing management to determine staffing needs, interviews and hires staff, resolves human resource-related issues, provides staff coaching, and conducts disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Facilitates communication between staff, administration, and company infrastructure to ensure flow of accurate timely information and decisions.
  • Implements, monitors, and evaluates Children’s Cardiology clinical support work processes that promotes collaborative clinical practice and ensures professional standards of nursing practice.
  • Ensure all duties and patient interactions are performed in accordance with patient and family centered care standards.
  • Formulate and establish staff training and education programs to promote professional development, ensure consistency in nursing practice, compliance, safety, and infection control policies.
  • Collaborate with Finance to incorporate financial management responsibilities into the roles of the clinic operations staff including budgeting, inventory monitoring and control, and purchasing.
  • Plan, administer, and monitor the operations and personnel budgets; regularly reviews expenditures; and implements changes as needed.
  • Review monthly financial reports and prepare annual budget; assure fiscal responsibility of department.
  • Collaborate with nursing management to orient and train employees, provides on-going performance feedback, identifies, and addresses problems, verifies competency, and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with Patient Financial Services to manage operations related to billing, reimbursement opportunities, revenue cycle management, payment variances, etc.
  • Responsible for profitability and managing within the established budget.
  • Participate in developing short- and long-term goals and objectives for the nursing department consistent with the company’s mission and values.
  • Facilitate communication services between external clients and hospital departments.
  • Communicates and maintains regulatory changes with HIPAA, Patient Safety, Employee Health, and departmental quality standards.
  • Assists in administering departmental standard operating processes, policies, and procedures in collaboration with ancillary departments and in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines; reviews, revises, and communicates them to ensure compliance.
  • Interprets applicable regulations and establishes monitoring and auditing procedures to ensure records and files are accurate and in compliance with regulations.
  • Continually track operational metrics and perform periodic audits, surveys, and organizational assessments to support Process Improvement activities. 
  • Ensure appropriate patient education materials are available for patient instruction and teaching.
  • Collaborate with physician leadership to implement and maintain a standardized telephone triage system to ensure appropriate patient contact, treatment, and consistency of practice.
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • May assist in establishing and implementing policies or programs resulting from management and physician leadership recommendations.
  • Oversee evaluation, selection, purchase and maintenance of all durable medical equipment and disposable medical supplies.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Operations Director, assist with the negotiations and contracts with third party vendors; including equipment and supply vendors. 
  • Perform an annual assessment of departmental goals; update and establish new goals as appropriate. 
  • Maintains good working relationship between Children’s Cardiology and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to assure alignment of patient care goals and provide seamless patient care. 
  • Serve as a co-liaison with Children’s Litigation Manager and Children’s Risk Manager to assure all litigation and risk management needs are collaborative and managed appropriately. 
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
