Position Description

To plan, implement, maintain and evaluate a comprehensive district health services program.
Responsibilities include the management of school health services to assist students in reaching their educational potential; continuous assessment of current health and safety needs of students and personnel and the effectiveness and efficiency of the school health program in meeting those needs; and the application of data in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive school health services program. School health services includes facilitating the operation of school-based health clinics. The coordinator is responsible to help develop the memorandums of agreement for school-based health clinics as directed by the superintendent.

  • Ensure health services program is in accordance with policies of Joint School District No. 2, Idaho State Board of Nursing rules and regulations, and state and federal laws;
  • Provide recommendations for changes to school health service philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures, including evaluating changes in emerging health care and application to the school environment;
  • Develop relationships and foster communications with community partners to support and maintain health care services for West Ada students and staff;
  • Provide communication between district office, building administrators, and health services staff on medical, health, and safety issues, including employee health and occupational injuries;
  • Act as liaison between district and private, local and state health care agencies;
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and reporting requirements;
  • Maintain comprehensive records of school health program activities and provide reports to district administration as requested;
  • Develop procedures for the administration of medications, treatments and other health services required at school;
  • Develop first aid and emergency care procedures;
  • Assist in transition, coordination, and planning for medically fragile students requiring complex medical care;
  • Monitor communicable disease and establish procedures for control of infection and communicable illness;
  • Recruit, interview, hire and train new nursing health services staff;
  • Evaluate performance and supervise health services staff through on-site visits, review of office procedures, and development of appropriate professional goals;
  • Increase health services staff effectiveness through planning and delivery of staff development for nurses based on identified needs;
  • Utilize strategic planning in the management of school health budget resources.


  • Current Idaho Professional Nurse (RN) license;
  • Pupil Personnel Services Certificate, School Nurse Endorsement;
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing; Master degree in health administration, educational administration or nursing preferred;
  • National Board Certification in School Nursing;
  • Minimum 5 years school nursing experience, with demonstrated knowledge of health and school issues at all levels (elementary, middle, and secondary);
  • Management and supervisory experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
