SUMMARY
School Nurse FTE – Full-Time
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The school nurse reports to the building administrator.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Collaborate with school counselors and administrators related to health care plans.
  2. Arrange for appropriate documentation, authorization for dispensing of medications in the school setting. 
  3. When legally appropriate, delegate, train and supervise non-licensed lay staff to carry out certain nursing responsibilities, (e.g. dispensing of medication in the school setting, tube feeding, EPI-Pen, cardiac, diabetic).
  4. Identify and plan for students with health problems. 
  5. Conduct special education health evaluations and attend IEPC when appropriate.
  6. Main contact with Lenawee County Health Department 
  7. Advise Administration, Staff, Parents, and Board on best practices in public health and disease containment and prevention. 
  8. Work with building principals and administration on contact tracing. 
  9. Point person for parents and community on school related Covid questions.
  10. Oversee reporting and record keeping on all infectious disease and health Record tracking 
  11. Visit all buildings on a weekly basis.
  12. Other responsibilities as may be assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelors degree in Nursing
  2. Knowledge of students with disabilities preferred
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of public health
  4. Active Michigan license to practice as a Registered Nurse

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on di"1sion and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
 
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee may drive while performing the duties of this job.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 90 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.  The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers.  The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet and occasionally loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
