GAOHN Spotlight on Deanna Cole

The Georgia Association of Occupational Health Nurses

This month's GAOHN Spotlight is on Deanna Cole. Read more about her in her own words!

Hello!

My name is Deanna Cole and I have a passion for helping those in need. As a child I often dreamed of being a nurse and helping the sick. That dream became a reality in 2004 when I graduated with honors from West GA Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. I was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and received the Mary Lynn Ferris honor award for outstanding nursing character. I have since expanded my education at Chattahoochee Valley Community College receiving an Associate in Applied Science Degree as a Registered Nurse.

When I began my career as a nurse, a mentor in college once stated “If you can work the Medical Surgical floor for one year, then you can work anywhere in a hospital”. I took that advice and began my career as a Med-Surge nurse where I acquired knowledge in various aspects of nursing. Throughout my career I have worked in a private medical clinic, a long-term acute care/rehabilitation facility specializing in spinal cord and brain injuries, a Hospice nurse, and currently Occupational Medicine. I am a member of the Columbus chapter of GAOHN as well as a CPR Instructor, certified from the American Heart Association. I am a thorough believer that nursing is an Art as well as a Science and together, as nurses, we can paint an exquisite piece on the hearts of those we care for in their time of need.

I currently reside in Beauregard, Alabama. In my spare time I enjoy working outdoors on our 15 acre mini farm with my husband of 18 years, Keith, and my beautiful 12-year-old daughter, Leah. I am an active church member where I serve as church Moderator and a member of the Financial Committee. I am an avid bass fisherman and enjoy spending Saturday mornings on the water. My future goals are to continue my education in the nursing profession.
