Feeding Tube Awareness Week  was created to educate the public about the advantages of feeding tubes and to connect those living with a feeding tube with others who are facing similar challenges.

Nurses and other healthcare providers are also in need of more education about feeding tubes, particularly the ones that are placed through the skin (percutaneous tubes). These tubes are not consistently or completely addressed in formal education or during facility orientation. This creates a knowledge and skills gap for nurses and other clinicians. Feeding tubes, though common, can cause serious and life-threatening complications
