Donation to Department of Veteran's Affairs Homeless Program
One of the joys of being in a local HPNA Chapter, was the ability to help people in our local community. Our chapter donated to a hospice in Staten Island, New York after one of the hurricanes, we have provided scholarships to nurses for conferences and reading materials and we had a annual hospice and palliatve care review course to help prepare nurses for the CHPN exam. One of our last actions before we closed our beloved chapter, was to donate $2.000.00 to the Department of Veteran's Affairs Hospice and Palliative Care program which serves housed and unhoused veterans at the End of Life. Dr. Duc Chung, Chief of the Hospice and Palliative Care program at the VA Central California Healthcare System, is probably the most compassionate physician I have ever met and our chapter is happy to help the programs he oversees for the homeless veterans. I also want to personally thank Rosemary Andrew, NP, for her support of the chapter and for facilitating the donation to the VA.
