Currently, an initial Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is valid for 1 year. Because of improvements to the new MiPLUS system, Michigan can now have the initial license period be the same as the renewal period. Effective October 1, 2019, both an initial RN and an initial LPN license will be valid for 2 years. Any subsequent nursing license renewals will remain valid for 2 years.
As a result of the change, the cost of the initial license will be $64.25 for each year plus the application fee of $80.30. This includes a statutory 2% increase that will be applied to all Public Health Code professions in October.
