National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci said the current flu season could be as severe as the 2017-2018 season, which CDC said was the deadliest in over 40 years. The CDC estimates that there have been at least 6.4 million flu cases, 55,000 flu-related hospitalizations and 2,900 deaths so far this season.
