On February 10, 2020, GNA released its Safe RN Staffing White Paper.

Authored by former GNA APRN Director Suzanne Staebler, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, and BSN Student Joanna Chang, the Safe RN Staffing White Paper explains the background and significance of the need for legislation addressing safe staffing. Dr. Staebler and Chang discuss safe staffing's effect on alleviating nurse burnout and turnover, the current legislative landscape, and offer recommendations for implementing and executing a safe, efficient and effective staffing plan.

The Georgia Nurses Association believes that registered nurses (RN) are the foundation to safe and effective patient care.  We believe safe staffing legislation using the Registered Nurses Safe Staffing Act's committee approach will result in decreased patient deaths, decreased adverse patient outcomes, reductions in medical errors and cost savings for facilities and payers in Georgia, as it has for other states.  Once legislation is in place, we further support mandated data reporting to validate policy outcomes.
