Speaker: Lisa Rosenzweig, PhD Bereavement Coordinator MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care

Purpose: The purpose of this didactic session is to increase clinicians’ awareness of 1) the risk for compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, and burnout when caring for palliative care and hospice patients and their families, and 2) the self-care strategies used to mitigate the risks.

Objectives:

  1. Define and discuss the risks of caring for patients and families in a palliative care or hospice context
  2. Describe the elements of self-care and its significance when caring for those receiving palliative care or hospice services
  3. Create a personalized plan for self-care to promote wellness in the workplace and mitigate risks

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students
