PALLIATIVE CARE IN THE ELDERLY SICKLE CELL PATIENT

Purpose: The purpose of this webinar is to enhance the knowledge of primary care physicians and nurse practitioners in the palliation of sickle cell anemia patients with frequent pain episodes.
Objectives:
Assess the patient with acute somatic and nociceptive pain in the context of chronic illness
Employ first-line treatment of recurring pain crises in the patient with sickle cell anemia
Understand when referral for palliative specialist care is helpful and important in conjunction with oncologic/hematologic management of patients with sickle cell anemia
Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students
