Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Fellowship
in Hospice and Palliative Care
The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Palliative Care Program is offering a 1 year APRN fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care. The APRN fellow will train with physicians in the D-H Palliative Care Fellowship Program during the academic year that begins July 1st. The NP fellow will work closely with the physician fellows and be fully integrated into this nationally recognized palliative care service which includes an interdisciplinary inpatient consult team (physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and healing arts), an outpatient clinic, and the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care with additional training in hospice provided off-site. Our focus is on training well rounded academic nurse practitioners to become experts in self-awareness, communication, complex symptom management, responsible opioid prescribing, teaching primary hospice and palliative care skills, and self and team-care.
Curriculum:
At D-H, we have over a decade of experience with a well-established ACGME-accredited physician fellowship curriculum (http://gme.dartmouth-hitchcock.org/palliative.html) which already embeds most nationally recognized components of an APRN fellowship in hospice and palliative nursing. The Fellow will be taught by experienced and committed clinician-educators who are recognized nationally as experts in the field. In addition to this core curriculum, we will add nursing seminars that specifically focus on nursing leadership, research, and specific APRN scope of practice issues.
Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctorate of Nursing from an accredited program.
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) by July 1, 2021 as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in NH.
- DEA registration for controlled substances.
- Adult fellowship applicants: Certification in adult/geriatric primary care, adult acute care, or family nurse practitioner.
