The Wisconsin League for Nursing extends our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and colleagues of two of our Nurse Educators recently lost due to Covid

The Wisconsin League for Nursing is deeply saddened to hear of the loss of two exceptional nurse educators from Carroll University Department of Nursing.  Both educators passed away from Covid. 

Kelly Raether, MSN, RN, 42, died on November 26, 2020.  She was very involved in her community and teaching.  She served as the EMT Captain of Ixonia Volunteer Fire/EMS.   She loved teaching and was a Professor of Nursing at Carroll University in Waukesha.  Her obituary details are located at Kelly Raether obituary Kelly is survived by her mother, one sister, cousins and friends.  Her father and an infant brother preceded her in death.

Dr. James La Rosa, DNP, RN, 44, died on January 1, 2021.  Jim was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing at Carroll University and was a registered nurse in the state of Wisconsin since 2002. He was involved in the following organizations: Sigma Theta Tau International- MU Chapter President 2016-2020, a member of Wisconsin League for Nursing, and a faculty advisor to GSA-Gender and Sexuality Alliance. He also participated in the following University and Nursing Department Governance: He was a faculty secretary from 2016-17, a planning and budget committee member, a curriculum committee member and a member of the faculty advising workshop task force.  His obituary details are located at James LaRosa obituary Jim is survived by his husband Bradley, two sons Joseph and Jonathan, his father, many family, friends and colleagues, and two furry pets Ricky and Lucy.  Jim's mother preceeded him in death.

Our nursing community has lost two of our own.  Both Kelly and Jim were educators at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI.  The WLN extends our deepest condolences to our colleagues at Carroll University.  We recognize excellent nurse educators are treasures for the staff and students and are deeply missed by all who had the honor of working with Kelly and Jim.
