Dear Members and Supporters- 

During our annual meeting, a suggestion was made to have The Boston Area Chapter of the HPNA host a monthly gathering for nurses by nurses to discuss patient cases, common issues faced by hospice and palliative nurses, informal mentorship, and other conversations that would help us thrive in our work.  This will be a virtual space that is both social and educational - no CEUs will be awarded. The focus is to spend time discussing our work and to use our collective knowledge and wisdom to support each other - and hopefully to have a little fun .  We plan to host these meetings on the 4th Monday of the month from 7-8 pm, starting in April. 

A few things we'll need to get this started:

Volunteers to open up the discussion. Nothing to do in preparation, just think about what you want to talk about during these gatherings.  A few suggestions: 

- a specific case (maintaining privacy and adherence to HIPAA policy). Think about what clinical question you want to investigate - symptom management, communication, prognostication and eligibility, family dynamics, cultural considerations, etc. 

- a practice issue - staffing, safety, self-care, job satisfaction, etc. 

- Practice pearls - what are the tips and tricks that help you get through the day? 

- any other topics that would be helpful to a group of nurses working in hospice and palliative care 

You do not need to worry about creating a formal presentation, we want this to be a space where we can engage in open conversation and simply discuss issues that are common in our practice. This is not a space for powerpoint.  We welcome and want nurses who are practicing at every level and in every phase of their career. 

Finally, we need a name for this activity - we know that we have some creative folks among us. Please share your ideas about what to call this monthly gathering! 

Our first session will be Monday, April 26th from 7-8pm on Zoom.
