New 2020-2022 ONA Board of Director Members

The 2021-2022 ONA Board of Directors would also like to welcome our newly elected board members:

Rachael Bachhofer, MSN, RN, CCRN-CMC-CSC

ONA Emerging Nurses Director 2021 - 2023

Rachael works as fpr AMN Healthcare Travel Agency and serves as Adjunct Faculty for Oklahoma City University, Southern Nazarene University, and  Rose State College. She has been a nurse since 2018 when she graduated with her BSN from Oklahoma City University Magna cum Laude.  Since then she has completed her Masters and is currently working on her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Oklahoma City University.  In her words: “As the role of the nurse became more apparent to Oklahoma’s constituents over this past year, nursing leadership is in the position to campaign for concerns that existed prior to the pandemic but are now disconcertingly forefrontal. The empowerment of our students is fundamental for what we owe to the future of our discipline. We must fiercely unify and advocate as change agents for what nursing deserves, beginning with the instillment of the engagement of the nurse’s roles that extend beyond the bedside - such as legislation, public health, and the advocacy for safety for both our patients and ourselves.”

Cassy Abbott Eng, PhD, RN, LNC, CNE

ONA Political Activities Director 2021 - 2023

Cassy is a Chapman Clinical Assistant - Professor of Nursing  at The University of Tulsa. She graduated from Marymount University in 1997 with her Associate Degree in Nursing progressing on to her BSN at Southern Nazarene University.  She earned her Masters and PhD in Nursing Education from The University of Northern CO  Greeley, CO.  In her words:  “I firmly believe we, as nurses, have the ethical obligation and professional duty to advocate for the health and well-being of every individual. We are charged to protect human life and to ensure equality and justice for all. As nurses, we advocate for our patients and populations by becoming politically involved and lobbying for policies that can then be implemented by our profession. We are the voice for our patients and the vehicle for change and must advocate for all people while embracing and supporting their unique differences along with their physical/social and emotional health. In addition, it is critical nurses fight to increase resources to aid in optimal health and wellness for the citizens of the state of Oklahoma. Acknowledging a challenge is the FIRST step. Fighting for the person or population that face that challenge ... is the RIGHT step. In doing so, we rightfully earn our title as most trusted profession.”

LaTonya Mason-Wilson, MS, RN, NE-BC

ONA Practice Director 2021 - 2023

LaTonya is the National Director of Clinical Professional Development for Ascension.  She holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Grand Canyon University. In her words: “Nurses must be seen as leaders at the table with an equal voice for changing healthcare. This will require the nursing workforce to be disrupted, and the timing is right. The pandemic has exposed the reasons why we cannot wait any longer for change. Nurses need to be working at the top of their license with resources to provide high quality care. We must advocate for the needs of the populations we serve versus the need of individuals. Innovative strategies must be explored to identify solutions and meet the outcomes needed. Professional development must be at the core of the strategies deployed.”
