Information on HB 416 (Seizure Bill)

The Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners

The Seizure Bill (HB 416) passed the PA legislature and goes into effect in January, 2022. The law calls for school nurses to complete a Department of Health approved online course of instruction or in-person training on the management of students with seizures. The law also calls for professional school employees to take an on-line course or in-person training on seizure recognition and related first aid. The wording of the law, however, does not mandate the courses and training, but states that school nurses and professional school employees “may” complete the instruction. If it were a mandate, the wording would say “shall.”
