The Essential Caregivers Act is national legislation that gives residents of nursing homes the right to access essential caregivers during any public health emergency.
Essential Caregiver bill was signed in North Dakota in 2021. The bill had been introduced by Sen. Kristin Roers. It allows nursing home residents to name an "essential caregiver" who could come and go from their facility during states of emergency to provide in-person emotional support line.
