Schools can support families by sharing messages about the dangers of opioids, especially fentanyl. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Even a tiny amount of fentanyl can kill. Fentanyl comes in a wide variety of forms, including pills, powder, chunks or rocks and liquids. Students, staff and families should be aware that even one pill can be fatal. A very small amount of fentanyl can cause an overdose. The Alaska Department of Health has issued a new health warning on fentanyl.
- Counterfeit pills containing fentanyl can cause an overdose death. Help keep Alaskans safe.
- Illicit fentanyl is added to many substances and comes in a variety of forms, including multi-colored chunks and pills that look like candy.
