Purpose: To demonstrate the importance of the GMM as an academic success program, which can be implemented in nursing education to improve a nursing student’s success in becoming a nurse.

Objectives: 

  • Identify what is meant by the growth mindset model.
  • Explore the three tenets of the growth mindset model.
  • Discuss extant research regarding the growth mindset model in nursing education.
  • Implement ways for participants to cultivate a growth mindset classroom.

Speaker:

Dr. Cheryl Williams is an Associate Professor at Salem State University in Graduate Nursing.   Cheryl is also a recent past-President of MARILN. Her research agenda examines the best student learning strategies, such as the cultivation of the growth mindset model in nursing education. Dr. Williams is regarded as an expert in the growth mindset model both nationally and regionally.  Her growth mindset work has been published in many top-tier journals. In 2018 Dr. Williams received the National League for Nurses 2018 journal Nursing Education Perspectives Innovations award for her contributions to the growth mindset model in nursing education.
