The NJSSNA Fall Series presentation on Abdominal Assessment by Dr. Abby Walsh, DNP, CPNP-AC provided comprehensive information on the increased incidence of perforated appendicitis citing a study conducted primarily in Essex County. Dr. Walsh's presentation included thorough information on abdominal assessment for appendicitis with an information sheet, current appendicitis management and a link for written parent teaching tools. Limited English proficiency, poverty and low primary care utilization are contributing factors to delayed treatment resulting in the increased incidence of perforated appendicitis. This program was recorded and will be posted to the NJSSNA Nursing Network website: https://njssna.nursingnetwork.com/ in the dropdown under the Continuing Ed. tab (when you log in to the website) - an excellent benefit of NJSSNA membership.
