The AORN Connecticut Chapter 1 - 0701

I wanted to bring your attention to a bill that is proposed in this years legislative session that would directly impact the Operating Room and Procedural spaces.

Connecticut's Senate Bill 1372, titled "An Act Concerning Medical Device Representatives," mandates that medical device representatives undergo credentialing by hospitals before providing technical or educational assistance during surgeries.

This credentialing process involves assessing and validating the qualifications of these representatives to ensure they meet necessary standards, aiming to enhance patient safety and the quality of care in surgical settings.

The bill was introduced on February 20, 2025, and referred to the Joint Committee on Public Health. https://cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&which_year=2025&bill_num=1372#

A public hearing was held on March 10, 2025. They are still accepting written testimony if you would like to add your voice to the decision!

Next steps: The Public Health Committee will vote on the bill, if that passes, it will move to the Senate for a vote and then the House for a vote. If it passes through all three, it will be sent to the Governor’s desk for approval to be signed into law.

Thank you,

Cassandra
