The National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Emeritus credential in recognition of retired nurses' service and commitment to the specialty practice of school nursing, as well as their achievement and maintenance of the NCSN credential prior to retirement. As such, NBCSN offers NCSNs who are retiring from professional nursing the option to retain their credential in an emeritus capacity through the NCSN-Emeritus credential or NCSN-E. To be eligible for the Emeritus credential, you must currently hold the NCSN credential in good standing.

The NCSN emeritus credential is not available if your NCSN credential  has lapsed or is not active.   Application for the Emeritus credential requires a one-time fee of $95. The Emeritus credential does not expire or need to be renewed.  To apply for the Emeritus credential simply log onto your NCSN account at NCSN account login and select the Emeritus option. Once your application and fee have been processed, your Emeritus credential certificate will be mailed to you within four to six weeks.

Please note that NCSNs who have retired from practice in the past five years will be offered a limited-time, introductory opportunity to apply for the Emeritus credential.  This offer expires at the end of 2015. Please let your retired colleagues know of this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Sue Nokleby MS, RN, LSN, NCSN
