Providing palliative care within the first 48 hours of admission led to a shorter length of stay for seriously ill patients, less cost, and decreased mortality, according to a study of seven hospitalsĀ in Journal of Palliative Medicine. The researchers also found that readmissions decreased for people receiving a palliative care consult within 48 hours, while hospice referrals increased.
