Supportive and Palliative Care CNS
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at Irving
Thank you for your consideration for the Secretary position for the Fort Worth Chapter of HPNA. It is an honor to be considered for this opportunity with such an active chapter.
I have worked as a Supportive and Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist for 8 years at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Irving. We are a mobile consultative team and I see patients and families to address comfort, care and planning. I am also an active member of the Ethics Committee, Sepsis/Mortality, APRN Council, HealthTexas Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Council, and serve as a preceptor for graduate nurses pursuing advanced degrees as a nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist.
Before obtaining my advanced degree, I worked at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas as a staff nurse on an Oncology/Hematology floor. I worked night shift there for 4 years. My first nursing position was in Savannah, Georgia on a Hematology/Oncology floor at Candler Hospital. I feel in love with oncology and the patients there. I have never regretted my decision to be an oncology nurse and care for these challenging patients.
I have been certified as an Advanced Practice Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse for 4 years. I have reviewed abstracts for the past two AAHPM/HPNA national conferences. I will participate in the new point study for the ACPHN exam in December. I have also been part of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) for the national consensus project data collection. I am also the Treasurer for Texas CNS, the state professional organization for Clinical Nurse Specialists. I have presented at the annual Texas CNS conference on end-of-life symptom management and integrating Palliative Care into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Outside of my professional practice, I have an amazing mother who lives with me. She is one of my greatest sources of support. I have a Boston Terrier named Judson who rules our house along with a box turtle name Ricky. I was raised in Houston, Texas but I am originally from Kentucky. I have a younger brother and two nieces and two nephews. I was raised as an “Army Brat” and have been fortunate enough to travel and see some amazing places. I love Pilates and my elliptical plus have a passion about coffee and books.
I appreciate your consideration for this positon.
