Letter from the President concerning updates, upcoming events and Elections!
Thank you again to those of you who attended our last HPNA meeting on March 8th.
Fifty-two participants enjoyed an engaging evening with Dr. Michael Preodor, regarding the latest on Methadone. We are grateful for his time and the sharing of his expertise with us. The discussion, which followed, was proof of how amazingly flexible and resilient hospice and palliative care practitioners are, in responding to the latest research findings and best practices to guide the quality of care we provide for our patients. You are amazing.
Thank you to Nargis Nardi, Carol Hargreaves and the Rainbow Hospice staff for their generosity as our host for the evening, and a special thank you to Cathy Vega for baking an unelicited, truckload of fabulous lemon bars! How thoughtful of you, the paucity of leftovers is indicative of how much they were enjoyed!
Congratulations to our raffle winners!

Nominations are now open, with voting scheduled for May 1-14th. Available positions: Treasurer and President-Elect.
Treasurer: is an integral member of the HPNA Chicagoland Board. This elected position has a two-year commitment, with important financial responsibilities. The Treasurer collaborates with the Board to develop an annual chapter budget, supervises the financial transactions of the chapter, maintains financial records, and collects annual member dues. The Treasurer presents a Treasurer’s report at each monthly Board meeting, and prepares an Annual Chapter Report to submit to HPNA National. **Check out Margaret Avery-Robinson, our current Treasurer, letter concerning her role on our board.**
President-Elect: is a rolling three year position, as this elected Board member progresses from President-Elect, to President, to Past-President. Activities include appointing Standing Committee Chairs, coordinating the development of chapter goals and strategic plans for chapter goals, scheduling and formulating the agenda, serving as a liaison between general chapter membership, the Chapter Executive Board, National HPNA and District Leaders, and representing the Chapter at HPNA National events. Upon being elected, this Board member typically, will be sent to the Leadership Conference in Pittsburgh in July, with all expenses paid through HPNA
Other ways to get involved: We are seeking to reinstate the Program Committee as well as the Membership Committee.
The Program Committee: the committee provides programs that meet the identified educational needs of the chapter membership and that are consistent with the mission and strategic plan of HPNA. Members will assist with securing speakers, locations, topics and submit the CE application.
The Membership Committee: is to promote initial and renewal of membership in the Chicagoland and National HPNA chapters, and maintain a current membership roster with member contact information.
What does the Board do?
Formally stated, the Chicagoland Chapter Board meets monthly as a group to collaborate and plan events. Our HPNA Mission is To Advance Expert Care in Serious Illness, through a focus on Advancing expert pain and symptom management and Advancing expert coordination and transitions of care. We engage members through Education, Advocacy, Leadership and Research to achieve our vision of Transforming the care and culture of serious illness.
Informally stated, this is a fun-loving group of Nurses who are committed, and passionate about their work. Board meetings usually mean dinner and conversation before we delve into open discussions about our upcoming events, new ideas and conference travel plans. I love being a part of this Board because we appreciate and support each other in our career goals, and we learn from each other as we develop new ideas, collaboratively. Through our planning of events, and small grant writing, we practice new skills and gain respect for each other, because of the unique contributions each member brings to the table. I am happy to count the wonderful, intelligent, compassionate, positive women I have met through the HPNA Board, as my friends and colleagues. Come be a part of this growing Chicagoland Chapter!
Come join our Chicagoland Chapter Executive Board!
