A letter about Chicagoland Chapter's Treasurer position
Hello Fellow Chicagoland Chapter Members!
I wanted to write about my role as your Chapter Treasurer. I hope that a couple of the members will consider putting “your hat in the ring” and run for the treasurer’s position. It is as simple as sending your name, bio, and the reasons you want to become the chapter’s treasurer to: chicagolandchapterhpna@gmail.com
First the basics: It is a two-year term beginning June 2017 thru June 2019. All board members must be members of HPNA national and a member of the chapter. Other than the general chapter meetings, I spend an average of six hours every month attending board meetings, preparing reports and maintaining financial records.
Responsibilities: Keep track of the money! Currently, I am using a modified Excel template to track revenues and expenses. Every month bank statements must be reconciled. HPNA national requires chapter treasurers to complete two reports every year- January 1 thru June 30 and an end of year report (I will complete the June 30 report to national, just as my predecessor did). Treasurers report the financial status to the board and prepare budgets for events as needed. As treasurer, I am always cognizant of the need to be a good steward of the chapter's funds.
Perks: Becoming a board member earns points for the HPAR certification process. One member of the board is invited to HPNA’s Leadership Conference. Historically one of the new board members is chosen by the board. Board members work together choose topics for meetings.
Best Perk: Meeting and working with the dynamic Hospice and Palliative nurses that make up the Chicagoland Chapter of HPNA!
Please consider the opportunity to become more involved in the chapter as its treasurer. If you have any questions about the treasurer’s position feel free to contact me at mar51405@comcast.net
