Research interests include: the perioperative environment with a focus on patient safety culture, normalization of deviance, nurse work environment, and nurse behaviors and characteristics. Adept in teaching the following subjects: management of care for adults with chronic diseases, foundational nursing, health assessment, nursing pharmacology, and leadership/management. I am a public speaker, and have much experience as an expert in the defense of malpractice perioperative litigation.

Nurse Scientist responsible for leading the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of nursing research and evidence-based practice activities. Serves as a consultant to nursing leadership, executives, and nurses for research and EBP projects. Engages in hospital quality outcome and patient safety initiatives and supports the development of programs to support, educate, and foster clinical inquiry.

After having spent 32 years within the perioperative arena, I now focus on organizational nursing excellence including promoting and supporting evidence-based practice and nursing research. Prior to this, I served as a Surgical Services Educator including ACU, PACU, and Endoscopy. I focused on incorporating new methods for providing education (i.e., virtual reality, simulation, gaming) while also facilitating quality improvement projects and staff professional development. I continue to fill my cup by working in the operating room on a per diem basis and mentoring new perioperative nurses.
