Sumanth Gandra is the General infectious diseases attending, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Associate Hospital Epidemiologist and serves as a member of the WHO Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines. Dr. Gandra specializes in clinical and public health research with a special focus on antibiotic use, antibiotic resistance surveillance and healthcare epidemiology in resource limited settings especially in India. His research is mainly funded by CDC and WHO. His ongoing CDC funded projects in India include- EPHOBI (Epidemiology and Preventability of Hospital Onset Bacteremia in Two hospitals in India) study and CRESCENT (Carbapenem Resistant Enterobacterales Surveillance in Two Intensive Care Units in India) study. He attends on the general infectious diseases, general medicine, and bone and joint services teaching fellows, residents, and students. He also sees patients in general infectious diseases clinic. I am currently mentoring doctoral candidates, infectious disease fellows and undergraduate students in field of antimicrobial resistance in low and middle-income countries.
