This two-hour PowerPoint presentation will use the latest evidence to develop and retain preceptors in the nursing workforce. There will be a poll at the end of the lecture which must be completed prior to the participants logging off the link, for 2-hours continuing education credit. The certificate will be sent out to the email each participant used to register.
The objectives are:
1. Discuss research surrounding preceptor competencies and evaluation.
2. Identify what preceptors want from their training.
3. Identify strategies to engage newly licensed nurses.

Speakers

Director of Research and Inquiry for the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD).
Mary Harper, PhD, RN, NPDA-BC, FAAN is the Director of Research and Inquiry for ANPD. She is a former Director on the Board of Directors of ANPD and has published widely on topics and research related to nursing professional development. She is the editor of the leadership Column in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development. Dr. Harper led the workgroup that developed the advanced certification in NPD. She is co-editor of the 3rd and 4th (current) editions of the Nursing Professional Development: Scope and Standards of Practice and the editor of the 6th edition of the Core Curriculum for Nursing Professional Development. Dr. Harper has been engaged in national studies related to precepting for the past five years and co-authored a chapter titled "The NPD Practitioner: Responsibility for Preceptor Program" in the 3rd edition of Beth Ulrich's text, Mastering Precepting.
