An APRN’s Experience Using AI-Assisted Technology in Psychotherapy Practice
Anna Bretschneider PhD, APRN-FPA, PMHCNS-BC, NEA-BC
1.0 CE CreditThis presentation is about the presenter’s experience and reflection on introducing and using AI-technology in clinical practice, which deepened her human-centered nursing practice in helping clients feel seen and heard. Description of Practice: The presenter piloted the use of AI-technology for clinical documentation of psychotherapy sessions, which immediately opened-up an unencumbered access to verbatim narrative analysis for direct client-engagement and clinician reference, and post-session client summary. Organizational authority and stakeholders input was incorporated and professional practice standards of client confidentiality, health information protection, and informed consent were reviewed as part of adopting this technology. Method of Evaluation: After implementing an AI-assisted documentation technology developed for mental health clinicians, the presenter found more value in the opportunity for closer reading, reflection, and deeper understanding of verbatim session dialogue and captured therapeutic processes, than the time-saving measure of the AI-technology application, itself. Results: Personally observed and verbalized client outcomes included satisfaction with service enhancement, increased client and family education, increased client-centered engagement opportunity, positive perception of the quality and ‘depth’ of the therapy facilitated, increased motivation to attend therapy, and raised client expectation of personally-tailored clinical feedback. Nurse therapist outcomes included workload efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and incorporation of client’s verbatim narrative for therapist use and analysis for case formulation and session preparation.

DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR AI NURSING ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Janet Davis MSN. MBA, PhD, RN, CNE
1.0 CE CreditThis session will equip participants with available resources to evaluate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the nurse’s roles and responsibilities. Realistically, nurses have not been prepared for the overall impact of AI on healthcare. Currently, the nursing profession faces issues and problems about AI practice standards. Nursing emphasizes the ethical aspects of using AI, including advocacy, cooperation, and accountability in caregiving. In light of these values, nurses have protested publicly against AI in their practices and have also rallied to empower nurses in deciding whether and how AI is used. The nursing profession is charged with ensuring the safe, effective, and competent delivery of healthcare with AI health technologies. Therefore, nurses must be part of forming practice guidance for AI healthcare, rather than reactive if something goes wrong. Competencies in AI technology are found in nursing education standards. Nursing scope and standards of practice along with regulatory requirements and ethical guidance provide rationale for nursing roles and responsibilities in AI healthcare. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, the International Council of Nurses, and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing have published resources that provide credible expert opinion for developing nursing roles and responsibilities in AI healthcare. Using these resources, participants will generate sample questions to evaluate the impact of 1) AI humanoid robot delegation and 2) virtual nursing supervision on nurse roles and responsibilities.
