"Please consider attending the kickoff to our 2025-2026 educational programs. There will be two esteemed physicians sharing their expertise with us.
For the 9:15-10:15 AM speaker slot: Rade Tomic, M.D. will be presenting: "Lung Transplant Indications"
This one-hour program will consist of reviewing the lung transplant evaluation process. The presenter will explain indications for lung transplant and timing of referrals, and will discuss contraindications for lung transplant.
Rade Tomic, MD, specializes in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Chicago, with a focus on lung transplantation. This includes evaluations of patients for lung transplants, perioperative complications of lung transplants, and postoperative complications of lung transplants including rejections, infection complications, and side effects due to immunosuppressive medications.
Dr. Tomic conducts research in various areas related to lung transplantation. His research focuses on lung transplant patient outcomes studies, lung transplant for highly sensitized patients, and lung transplantation for cancer patients. Dr. Tomic has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Science, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, and JAMA.
Dr. Tomic earned his medical degree from the University of Zagreb and completed his residency training at the University of Illinois. Additionally, he completed his fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta.
Our 2nd speaker for the 10:30-11:30 AM slot, Dr. Bradford Chong, M.D. will be presenting on "Acute Pancreatitis"
Acute pancreatitis is highly morbid, costly, and burdensome. It is critical to understand and implement best practices in diagnostic evaluation, fluid resuscitation, endoscopic/surgical treatments for pancreatic necrosis, and nutritional support in acute pancreatitis.
Dr. Chong is the Director of the Pancreas Program and Clinic at University of Chicago, lead for the Pancreas Multi-disciplinary Case Conference at University of Chicago, lead for the interdisciplinary Pancreatitis Pain Program at University of Chicago, and the Director, National Pancreas Foundation Pancreatitis Center of Excellence, University of Chicago.
