Registered Nurse – Nursing Home Surveyor/Complaint Investigator

Location: New York, NY

Employment Type: Contract / Travel

Hourly Rate: $45/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and committed Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a Nursing Home Surveyor/Complaint Investigator in New York, NY. This contract/travel-based role focuses on conducting regulatory surveys, investigating complaints, and ensuring nursing home compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active New York State RN license (required)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of survey experience (required)
  • Either:
  • 2+ years in utilization review, claims adjudication, medical review, fraud investigation, or monitoring; OR
  • 3 years of clinical or administrative nursing experience; OR
  • BSN with 2 years of clinical/administrative experience

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Proficient with computers and ability to learn new applications quickly
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively

Additional Requirements

  • SMQT certification is preferred (or must be obtained within 12 months of hire)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for onsite surveys

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys and investigate complaints, including serious allegations (e.g., abuse, neglect) in nursing homes
  • Draft comprehensive Statements of Deficiencies (SOD) following Principles of Documentation
  • Evaluate Plans of Correction and determine compliance
  • Input findings into federal and state databases promptly
  • Participate in monitoring during immediate jeopardy scenarios
  • Attend required meetings and testify at administrative hearings, when applicable
  • Adhere to Department of Health (DOH) protocols and travel to on-site locations as assigned
