Position Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse – Stepdown

Location: New York, NY 10029

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend & holidays required

Hours: 3x12-hour shifts

Job Summary:

Seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a Stepdown Unit on a contract basis. The Clinical Nurse will provide safe, high-quality, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population. This role requires critical thinking, collaboration, and compassionate care delivery in alignment with Mount Sinai’s Relationship-Centered Care model.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Active NYS RN License
  • BLS (AHA) certification
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • At least 2 years of cardiology, telemetry, or VAD experience
  • EPIC experience highly preferred
  • 1 year of travel nursing experience preferred (not required for per diem roles)

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted with relevant experience and/or active enrollment in a BSN program

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.

Perform therapeutic interventions and manage patient transitions effectively.

Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, and post-discharge care.

Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of care in compliance with standards.

Patient Experience:

Foster strong therapeutic relationships through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.

Support initiatives such as Bedside Shift Report, Hourly Rounding, and Medication Review.

Promote cultural sensitivity, service recovery, and patient advocacy.

Quality & Safety:

Practice evidence-based, patient-centered care to ensure optimal safety and outcomes.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to high-reliability principles.

Escalate safety concerns appropriately following hospital protocols.

Operations:

Perform charge nurse duties as needed and support throughput initiatives.

Ensure proper resource utilization and coordinate supply needs with leadership.

Accurately document all care and comply with hospital, legal, and regulatory standards.

Engage in continuous learning and support a culture of inquiry and clinical excellence.

Participate in unit-based and organizational shared decision-making initiatives.

Model professionalism, ethical practice, and compassionate care.
