Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. The Registered Nurse collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members in the development, execution, and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care. The RN maintains a safe care environment for their patients (clients) and delivers quality care. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
The Surgical Services Specialty Coordinator plans, coordinates, and manages specific surgical specialty area(s). Collaborates with physicians to ensure equipment and supplies are appropriately available. This position works to promote and sustain a culture reflective of Centra's best practices for quality and service, creates and maintains a safe patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. The practice of the Surgical Services Specialty Coordinator reflects the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia, and the ANA Principles of Nurse Staffing.
Responsibilities
Develops, promotes, and sustains a culture reflective of the ANA Healthy Work Environment Standards, which includes: skilled communications, true collaboration, effective decision making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership
Promotes and role-models leadership within the organization as evidenced by participation in organizational-wide committees/projects
Delegates to care providers according to the ANA Principles of Nurse Staffing
Engages in own professional development as evidenced by self assessment and attainment of degrees, certifications, and continuing education
Participates in unit-based succession planning process
Manages employee performance which includes: regular evaluations, mediating disputes, and initiating progressive discipline
Develops and implements plans for staff engagement
Develops formal or informal mentoring relationships
Handles conflict resolution in an appropriate, timely and consistent manner
Cascades Centra goals and objectives to the unit level and assists staff with identifying personal contributions
Operationalizes and monitors action plans developed to enhance the patient and family experience
Participates in service recovery and uses appropriate resources during complex situations
Ensures that staff operationalize Centra's best practices
Applies process improvement methodology to unit-based initiatives
Operationalizes and monitors staff adherence to change resulting from evidence-based practice or research
Collaborates with management to follow up on risk management concerns
Holds staff accountable for Centra safety behaviors
Accountable for staff adherence to National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG)
Other Functions
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education: Graduate of a school of nursing
Preferred Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN)
Required Experience: 1 year of operating room experience
Required Certifications and Licensures: Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse. Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.
Preferred Certifications and Licensures: Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
