Position Description

The Simulation Lab Coordinator will facilitate high-quality simulation-based education in Loyola's state-of-the art learning environment. The coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Simulation Lab, and assures an effective schedule for utilization of the simulation center, working collaboratively with nursing faculty and administration.

Essential Job Functions include: 
•    Schedule and coordinate activities with the nursing faculty for both undergraduate and graduate nursing student usage.
•    Manage the use of simulation resources including simulation space, equipment, and personnel.
•    Manage and maintain simulation/skills lab equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working order through collaboration with vendors. 
•    Collaborate with faculty for curricular integration of simulation throughout the academic programs of the university and with inter-professional initiatives.
•    Working with the SON director, faculty, and Dean, develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of simulation space, equipment, and supplies. This includes working with faculty to ascertain need and then ordering and maintaining stock levels of all supplies (maintaining an inventory system).
•    In collaboration with the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health and Director of the SON, maintain fiscal responsibility for aspects of the Center, ensuring judicious economic oversight for the resources necessary to operate the facility. This includes obtaining bids for equipment and resources, and price comparison for purchase of supplies to ensure good stewardship of funds.
•    Ensure that quality assurance systems are in place, utilized, and effective.
•    Collaborate with program/course coordinators in the design and evaluation of simulation exercises to ensure that instruction is consistent with national professional standards to assure skill and knowledge competencies of graduates.
•    Participate in the writing of grant opportunities, as requested, that are specific to simulation.
•    Participate in the recruitment, and training, of standardized patients (SPs), as necessary. Work with faculty to facilitate onboarding and training of SPs that faculty recruit for simulations.
•    Work towards simulation-specific certification designations (for the lab itself) at the direction of the SON director and Dean.
•    Stay up to date on operations and maintenance of simulation/skills lab equipment and technology by attending recommended training and professional development.
•    Train and support faculty in the use of simulation/skills lab technology.

Qualifications
•    A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
•    Possess an unencumbered RN license in the state of Louisiana or be eligible to obtain one.
•    Have at a minimum two years of full-time clinical experience providing nursing care as a Registered Nurse.
•    Experience working in a simulation center is preferred.
•    Experience with simulation technology, building simulation scenarios, and maintaining simulation equipment.
•    Knowledge of nursing curriculum preferred.
 •    Advanced computer skills with the use of simulation equipment and technology.
•    Ability to adapt to the University systems and software.
•    Experience working with and inspiring faculty to collaborate in curriculum design with simulation activities is preferred.                                                                                                                                                                                          •    Ability to support students from diverse backgrounds.

  Additional Desirable Qualifications

•    Existing relationships with the simulation community.
•    Conscientious, mature, self-starter; attentive to detail.
•    Initiation, imagination, and organizational qualities to assist in the development of simulation programs.
•    Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with faculty, staff, students, administrators, preceptors, vendors, and outside health organizations.
•    Willing to work irregular hours occasionally as necessary to accommodate on-campus intensives for graduate nursing specialties, undergraduate clinical day simulations, etc.
•    Strong and empathetic communication, emotional intelligence.
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality.
•    Accurate record-keeping skills.
•    Demonstrates a positive attitude, ability, and hopefulness about learning with conviction to transform weaknesses into opportunities.
•    Knowledge of educational principles, teaching strategies, and instructional media.
•    Exhibits a student-centered philosophy.
