Position Description

Location: New York, NY 10128

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Thursday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Friday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Two Saturdays per Month)
  • Sunday: CLOSED

Salary: $58- $63/hour

Overview

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for either (A) admitting the patient to the Center, (B) assisting in the procedure room, and (C) monitoring the patient during the recovery post procedure. In addition, the Registered Nurse may be in charge of maintaining instruments and inventory in order and other responsibilities as identified by management.

Responsibilities

  1. Admitting Role
  2. Identifies self to patient and family and assures the correct identity of patient and procedure to be performed.
  3. Checks patient’s vital signs and does pre-procedure assessment.
  4. Select correct IV catheter and insert IV catheter within two attempts.
  5. Offers emotional support to patients.
  6. Demonstrates knowledge of procedures when instructing patients.
  7. Documents and communicates any specific patient concerns.
  • Procedure Room Role
  • Assures the correct identity of the patient and procedure to be performed.
  • Correct documentation of procedure and medications.
  • Knowledge of Medications and the ability to administer through various routes.
  • Able to utilize all equipment to monitor patient.
  • Offers emotional support to patient during the procedure.
  • Utilizes safety measures, e.g. masks, gloves, goggles.
  • Keeps Physician aware of patient’s condition during procedures.
  • Accurately documents specimens.
  • Knows and performs if needed the emergency protocol.
  • If not previously completed, can insert IV catheter with no more than 2 sticks.
  • Chooses appropriate site for I.V. insertion.
  • Accurately and completely documents I.V. insertion information.
  • Assist with injections and similar procedures as required.
  • Recovery Room Role
  • Follows standing Recovery Room orders.
  • Accurately documents post-procedure progress in the Recovery Room.
  • Checks and follows through on any additional physician orders.
  • Communicates discharge instructions to patient/escort, and answers any questions.
  • Keeps patient until discharge criteria met.
  • Arranges or instructs patient on obtaining a follow-up appointment.
  • Makes follow-up calls to patient on the next working day following the procedure.
  • Knows emergency protocol.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability with:
  • Narcotic Count
  • Stocking of the Recovery Room
  • Emergency Cart
  • Defibrillator
  • HCG Testing
  • Glucometer
  • Vital signs monitor
  • Other responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates and uses appropriate safety measures.
  • Performs duties related to completion of center logs.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service classes on regularly scheduled days.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Keeps informed of changes in endoscopy procedures through reading or attendance at local SGNA meetings
  • Complies with the various incident reporting systems of the Center, such as adverse events and incident reports.
  • Performs assigned duties as needed for the center operation.
  • Job Relationships
  1. Reports directly to the Director of Nursing.
  2. Works collaboratively with Center co-workers and physicians.
  3. Interacts with patients, visitors and staff in a courteous manner
  • Qualifications
  1. BS or equivalent college degree and current state RN license.
  2. 4 years of solid experience in either Endo, Surgery/Ambulatory or OR
  3. Prior experience in an admitting, procedure, or recovery role in an ambulatory setting, preferably in a GI setting.
  4. ACLS certified.
  5. If BLS certified, willing to become ACLS certified within center specified time period.
  6. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical Activities and Requirements
  1. Possesses good physical health, capable of working in a demanding environment.
  2. Able to perform the job’s essential functions, including extended hours, standing, bending, and stretching with frequent trips to all areas of the center.
  3. Able to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 25 lbs as needed.
  4. Possesses manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and visual understanding, which is essential to the performance of the job tasks.
  5. Speaks clearly and distinctly to perform extensive communication with other staff members, patients, their families/escorts, physicians, vendors, and other third parties.
  6. Always appears professional and wears professional attire as dictated by center policy.
