Minimum Oualifications:
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree or higher
- RN with PA Nursing License, PA certified school nurse
- Maintain CPR certification
- Every employee must submit an Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Pennsylvania Act 24 of 2011, Act 34 (Criminal Record Check), Act 151 (Child Abuse History Check), FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Criminal History Check, and Act 126 Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training. As per Act 15 of 2015, all clearances must be renewed every five (5) years.
- Also, as of December 22, 2014, Act 168 of2014 requires all newly hired employees to provide the District with the Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form for all former employers in which they had direct contact with children and any current employer/s.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Goals:
School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-
management, self-advocacy, and learning. The roles of the school nurse are overarching and applicable to school nurses at all levels of practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides care for injuries, acute illness and long-term management of students with special care needs.
- Provides leadership for the provision of health
- Provides screenings and referrals for health
- Provides a health school
- Promotes health education in/out of the
- Serves as a leadership role for health policies and programs
- Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, health care professionals, and the community.
- Maintains a student health record for every
- Stores all student health records in a locked file
- Determines the immunization status of all students according to the PA School Immunizations Regulations.
- Completes School Law Immunization Regulations Annual
- Collects data, compiles reports and completes School Health Annual Reimbursement Request System (SHARRS).
- Plans, schedules, and performs mandated services according to PA School Health Code.
- Reviews all health condition updates on students and enters pertinent health information into Powerschool.
- Creates Individual Health Plans (IHP) as needed, based on health
- Development and management of health concerns per
- Medical 504 plans- writing, implementing, holding meetings, and following up on each plan per the duration.
- Plans, schedules and assists the school physician with physical examinations according to the PA School Health Code.
- Plans, schedules and assists the school dentist with dental examinations according to the PA School Health Code.
- Refers all students with defects noted on screenings or
- Assess the condition and needs of all students who enter the health room during the day; maintains an accurate daily log of all students entering the health room.
- Provides care for staffing according to
- Follows Procedure No. 3 - Communicable Diseases; excludes students who are suspected of having a communicable condition; recommending appropriate follow up.
- May provide health instruction upon
- Acts as a health consultant to students and
- Supporting the mental health of the students and
- Assists with finding coverage and providing sub nurses with health information and field trip instructions.
- Provides training for newly hired staff
- Secures proper forms and physician orders for the administration of prescription and nonprescription medication during school hours.
- Stores medications in locked
- Provides special medical treatments according to physician
- Utilizes community agencies when
- Attends workshops when applicable and with Board
- Supports memberships of professional
- Maintain medical supplies throughout the
- Supports and attends fieldtrips throughout the school
- Respond to emails, voicemails, and other communication throughout the school day.
- Completes accident reports for any injury requiring medical attention or causes of absence from school.
- Actively participates in the Student Assistance
- Maintains and provides training on AED within the School District and
- Maintain Epi-Pen supply and training for
- Certify building level physicals
- Perform other guidance functions assigned by the principal(s) or Director of Student Services

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.

Computer Skills:
Demonstrate proficiency with IBM-based or MAC based personal computers and programs such as Office and Google, spreadsheets, database, and presentation programs.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with multiple problems.
