Position Summary
The Nurse Manager is accountable for applying positive managerial strategies to promote greater organizational commitment among employees. Is responsible for the operations and management of the unit/service assigned, as well as the facilitation of quality patient care throughout the organization. Works independently and interdependently within the hospital network to accomplish efficient, cost effective, quality patient care. Supports and promotes the vision, mission, and strategic plans of SJHHC.
The Nurse Manager is a licensed registered nurse (RN) accountable for leading, managing & advancing people, processes & / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The Nurse Manager promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment.

Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred, according to NYS requirements, with one to two years progressive experience in the field. Ideally the candidate will have strong clinical skills, leadership qualities and must be actively working toward an advanced degree. BSN is required for level 4 RN hires *GN’s or RN’s with < 1-year experience should apply to the Graduate Nurse Residency positions.Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State. Specialty credentialing & educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred. Maintains all licensures and certifications according to NYS regulations and specialty area requirements. Participates in continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Maintain BLS/CPR certification. Maintain other certifications appropriate to field.
Work Environment And Hazards
Pay Range: $50.85 - $66.30
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location

Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and implement staffing plan to ensure adequate care coverage.
- Evaluate retrospective, current and prospective unit productivity and adjust to reach targeted levels.
- Coordinate response to urgent/emergent situations as evidenced by reallocation of personnel and resources.
- Collaborate with nursing education to facilitate orientation initiatives and provide preceptor education and support.
- Participate in hiring, evaluating, initiating corrective action and terminating employees as needed.
- Educate team members in theoretical and clinical competencies associated with care delivery typical of unit.
- Collaborate with unit leadership to provide formal feedback through performance development process.
- Collaborate with unit leadership to achieve unit and organizational quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives.
- Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
- Ensure a seamless, effective, efficient transition of care across the continuum.
- Participates in monitoring quality metrics specific to the department & ensure complete & accurate documentation in the patient record.
- Act as 1) mentor; 2) clinician; 3) educator; 4) consultant/collaborator; and 5) navigator.
- Clinical ladder advancement with experience, staff engagement, and national certification.
