Position Description

Insight Global is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Interventional Radiology for a nursing job in Washington, District of Columbia.

Responsible for patient assessment, pre and intra procedural care of patients undergoing invasive procedures or sedation in the Department of Radiology. This is accomplished according to an established plan of care, under the direction of the Director of Operations and Radiology Nurse Coordinator in charge of Nursing who is a licensed Registered Nurse. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and the hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides pre-procedure telephone instruction and education to patients relating to their procedure.
  • Performs pre-procedure assessment, appropriate documentation of assessment, pre-procedure preparation of the patient, which includes intravenous access, review of allergies and laboratory results, application of monitoring equipment, and site preparation as indicated.
  • Monitoring is performed intra-procedure according to Radiology/Nursing policy to assess vital signs, pallor, responsiveness, level of comfort, emotional status; Neuro status and circulation are assessed according to Radiology policy and as indicated by the procedure; provides patient care utilizing the nursing process; information related to changes in patient's condition is relayed accurately and efficiently to the physician. Appropriate care and treatment are implemented; acts as a patient advocate; follows universal precautions.
  • Administers and titrating medications appropriately and in the correct increment dosages, knowing the pharmacological effects and side effects of the medications being administered. Assesses and documents the patient's response to medications administered. Institutes appropriate treatment to medication induced changes in the patient's condition. Administers emergency drugs and utilizes emergency equipment knowledgeably and appropriately.
  • Post-procedure care is arranged prior to procedure date unless the case is an add-on. Performs and documents an appropriate and complete post-procedure assessment. Gives a complete and concise report to the department receiving the patient post procedure. Discharge instructions and patient/family education are provided according to Radiology policy.
  • Performs daily equipment, drug and quality assurance checks as required by Radiology policy. Documentation is performed accordingly. Reports equipment failures and assures repairs are performed; Arranges for replacement of expired or used supplies.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Performance Improvement and Research activities.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives. Recognizes cost reduction opportunities.
  • Supports unit and organization's goals.
  • Exemplifies SPIRIT values, actively participates in Patient Safety Standards and tasks.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor as unit needs delegate.
  • Participates in educational programs.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and is not to be considered as all-inclusive.

Minimum Qualifications -Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing -1-2 years experience in ICU, IR, ED, or PACU required -RN State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required -CPR or BLS and ACLS certifications -PALS certification preferred -Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia recognition, invasive pressure monitoring, conscious sedation, emergency care, and comprehensive assessment skills
