Director of Nursing, Medical Surgical Services

 United Health Services is seeking a Director of Nursing – Medical Surgical Services to lead strategic and daily operations across medical-surgical units. This key leadership role fosters a collaborative, interprofessional environment that emphasizes continuous improvement, operational excellence, and high levels of patient and staff engagement. The Director ensures alignment with UHS standards and plays a central role in maintaining the systems, processes, and outcomes that reflect the organization’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to Every Connection Matters.

The Director supports nursing as a vital component of the healthcare team—promoting evidence-based practices, shared governance, and a culture of safety and accountability through Just Culture principles. This role collaborates with nurse managers, physicians, and administrative leaders to lead strategic planning, quality improvement, budget development, staffing, and program growth. By guiding care that is safe, timely, and equitable, the Director helps ensure exceptional patient experiences and sustainable operational success across the Medical Surgical Services area.

This role requires a nursing leader who fosters collaboration, builds trusting relationships, and supports shared decision-making aligned with organizational goals. The leader must demonstrate strong knowledge of nursing practice, patient care standards, and regulations, ensuring evidence-based policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include promoting a culture of innovation, professional growth, and engagement in professional organizations. The position also requires business acumen to manage budgets, interpret financials, oversee workforce planning, and implement creative, cost-effective solutions that support high-quality patient care.

• UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY
• UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY

Compensation Range:
$65.54 - $98.31 per hour, depending on experience

Sign-On Incentives:

Up to $25,000 sign-on bonus for candidates who meet eligibility criteria.

Requirements:

• Master's in nursing or bachelor’s in nursing and master’s in business or healthcare related field.
• New York State Registered Nurse License or eligible
• 5 years of clinical nursing experience
• 2 years of nursing management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional certification in Nursing Executive (NE-BC) or Nursing Executive Advanced (NEA-BC).  Required within 2 years of accepting position.
