Position Description

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Prescription Refill RN for our offices located in Suffolk.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a palliative care consultant to an interdisciplinary team for complex pain and symptom management issues
  • Works in collaboration with clinical social work, advanced practice providers, patient navigators and nursing staff
  • Educates and counsels patients and families about the disease process and end of life issues
  • Evaluates and records patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Serves as liaison to physicians and community at large. Maintains good communication and collaborative relationships with referring physicians and other medical staff to ensure patients are receiving necessary care
  • Responsible for managing and mentoring site staff to ensure adequate coverage and quality care. Leads team meetings that address, discuss and train on palliative care techniques
  • Demonstrate adaptability while handing day-to-day work challenges and adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Develop patient schedule to meet the demands of traveling rotation between Western Tidewater offices.
  • Demonstrates flexibility.

Qualifications

  • BSN required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Nursing experience, Palliative Care preferred.
  • Certification in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing preferred.
  • Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
  • Appropriate RN state licensure required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations.

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
