School Nurse – Contract Position (High School)

Location: Allentown, PA 18103

Duration: Initial 3–4 week contract with potential for extension

Overview This high school is seeking a qualified and empathetic Registered Nurse to support a 9th-grade student with complex medical needs. This role centers on providing consistent health monitoring, emergency response, and collaborative care to ensure the student’s safety and full participation in the academic environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Seizure Management:
• Administer care for focal motor and tonic-clonic seizures
• Follow the student’s Seizure Action Plan with precision
• Administer emergency medication as prescribed
• Determine when emergency services are required
• Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES):
• Distinguish between epileptic and non-epileptic seizure activity
• Respond according to the student’s individualized medical protocol
• Dandy-Walker Cyst Awareness:
• Understand implications of the student’s neurological condition
• Monitor for associated symptoms and complications
• Mobility Support:
• Assist with wheelchair transfers and safe navigation throughout the school
• Daily Health Monitoring:
• Track vital signs, hydration, and comfort
• Provide post-seizure care and ensure recovery
• Team Collaboration:
• Communicate regularly with family, educators, and school staff
• Ensure alignment on care procedures and student support
  

Qualifications

• Licensure: Active RN license in Pennsylvania
• Experience:
• Prior work with pediatric or adolescent populations with medical complexities
• Demonstrated expertise in seizure management
• Skills:
• Strong clinical judgment and emergency response capability
• Effective communication and documentation
• Compassionate and student-centered approach
