Duties Description

The Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatric) as the Unit Manager will provide direct nursing care to residents requiring advanced clinical interventions; serve as teachers and resources to treatment teams, registered nurses, and direct care staff; and provide clinical supervision and training to nursing and direct care staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service

in a position allocated to Grade 18 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatric).

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with a geriatric population.

Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with a geriatric population.

Substitution

A bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous employment in Long Term Care

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health and have one year of permanent competitive service and have possession of a license and current registration as a registered

professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with a geriatric population.

The posted hiring rate ($104,173) includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($74,192), an Increase Hiring Rate ($9,980), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). The posted job rate ($114,121) is the sum of the statutory job rate ($94,121) and Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000).

Additional compensation may apply based on shift assignment. 7% shift differential for evening shift. 10% shift differential for night shift.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
