Job Description:
Registered Nurses (RNs) in Psychiatric settings provide direct patient care to individuals experiencing mental health conditions in hospitals, clinics, or residential treatment facilities. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while collaborating with psychiatrists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The RN ensures the safety, stabilization, and ongoing mental health care of patients, providing support and therapeutic interventions as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and monitor psychiatric patients’ mental and physical health status
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor for side effects
• Provide therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and emotional support
• Document patient care, observations, and treatment plans accurately
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and multidisciplinary teams
• Assist in developing and updating individualized patient care plans
• Monitor and manage patient behavior to ensure safety of patients and staff
• Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, treatment, and coping strategies
• Respond to psychiatric emergencies or behavioral crises
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and documentation standards

Requirements:
Education & Licensure:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)

Experience:

• Prior experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing preferred (1-2 years typically required)

Certifications (preferred):

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
