Registered Nurse – Mother Baby

Location: Holy Cross Health

Position Purpose

At Holy Cross Health, our Mother Baby Nurses provide skilled, compassionate care to mothers and newborns in private recovery rooms using a couplet care model within our 65-bed unit. This role focuses on comprehensive postpartum care, including assessment, planning, interventions, and patient education—especially for patients managing co-morbidities that impact recovery.

Please note: This is not a new graduate nurse position.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to postpartum mothers and newborns using the couplet care model.
  • Use critical thinking and prioritization skills to respond to changing patient conditions in accordance with AWHONN and hospital standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to advocate for patient needs.
  • Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for high-risk maternal and neonatal complications.
  • Perform newborn screening tests and standard lab work.
  • Provide bedside lactation support and education on newborn and postpartum care.
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards for the mother-baby dyad.
  • Document care using EPIC electronic medical records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ASN required).
    • BSN or MSN preferred.
    • If not already held, BSN/MSN must be obtained within a specified timeframe per hospital policy.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current Registered Nurse license from the Maryland Board of Nursing or Compact State.
    • BLS certification (American Heart Association).
    • NRP certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1 year of nursing experience in a Mother-Baby or Labor & Delivery setting.
  • Preferred:
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification through NCC or willingness to obtain within the first year of hire.

Pay rate: $38.92 - $55.68

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
