This position has a projected start date of December 1, 2025.
The Nursing Practice & Quality Specialist (NPS) for the Adult Acute & Intermediate Care Area serves as a clinical leader and expert resource, focused on advancing safe, high-quality, and evidence-based nursing care across complex adult care settings. This role supports frontline nurses in clinical decision-making, ensures alignment with population-specific standards, and promotes consistent, outcome-driven practice through the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing policies, procedures, and protocols. The NPS plays a key role in driving improvements in patient outcomes and care quality by contributing to initiatives such as the Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC) Taskforce, accreditation readiness, and system-wide practice enhancements. Additionally, the NPS leads the adoption of new clinical practices and products, supports evidence-informed product decisions, and collaborates with interdisciplinary partners including informatics to ensure nursing practice is effectively integrated into clinical workflows and electronic systems.
Function/Duties of Position
The PL is accountable for leading the nursing practice environment by supporting clinical nurses engaged in direct patient care, driving practice advances and innovations at the system, unit, service line levels by ensuring the use of evidence and best practice for education and competency, informatics and technology, research, professional development, professional practice foundations + model and quality and safety. An important focus of the PL is understanding organizational goals and designing, implementing, and evaluating practice change initiatives that advance these goals.
A strong PL must be able to: (a) communicate effectively toward negotiating multiple perspectives within the organization and driving change; (b) demonstrate clinical judgment and establish clinical credibility with nursing and interprofessional colleagues within the system, unit and service line; (c) exhibit self-direction in maintaining professional knowledge and competence; (d) apply critical thinking and analytic skills to design and implement change; (e) build rapport with and provide mentorship to clinical nurses, clinicians, professionals and staff, and (f) partner effectively with colleagues to advance the professional nursing practice environment

- Work Schedule: Flexible 9/80 work schedule with intermittent remote options.
- Work Location: Must live in Oregon, Washington, Portland-Vancouver metroplex, within 100-mile radius to OHSU main campus and clinics.
- Travel: Based on professional development opportunities including out-of-town conferences.
- Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing
- Unencumbered Oregon RN License
- Five years of experience as a registered nurse in a related clinical area of practice or focus
- Two years of recent leadership experience
- Nursing professional certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- AONL Nurse Leader Core Competencies
- AACN Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education
- ANPD Professional Development Competencies
- Nursing Professional Specialty-Population Competencies
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
