Position Summary

Provides administrative support to Director of Psychiatry. To act as a psychiatric consultant on clinical issues to all areas of CHN including primary care and health homes. Eighty percent (80%) of the provider's time is spent conducting psychiatric evaluations and management of patients as well as providing consultations and education to clinical staff. Twenty percent (20%) of the provider’s time is spent on administrative tasks, which includes planning and coordination of program needs and quality oversight. The provider works closely with the Directory of Psychiatry in coordinating the assessment and planning for the Behavioral Health Program. Meets regularly with program staff to address clinical issues, and be available to assist Director of Psychiatry in developing relationships with community agencies.

Job Function

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • 1. Obtains and/or reviews/evaluates an obstetric patient’s medical and psychosocial history.
  • Performs complete family planning and/or obstetric comprehensive physical examination.
  • Performs screening procedures including Pap Smears, GC cultures, Chlamydia tests and Wet preps.
  • Facilitates related services for health center patients as appropriate with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  • Performs routine interim physical examinations on patients that are risk specific, and as outlined in the agency’s Medical Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Evaluates individual patients and prescribes appropriate medications, treatments, referrals as indicated in the Policies & Procedures Manual and/or is consistent with current standards of care.
  • Provides continuous obstetric or family planning care to patients and management of common and important clinical problems encountered in a primary care setting.
  • Refers to the physician(s) regarding problems outside the scope of their license.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate sources/consultants for medical and/or social problems.
  • Participates in patient education and counseling services, especially about obstetric, family planning, STD’S/HIV, preventive health and nutrition.
  • Interprets laboratory data. Reviews and initials all family planning and obstetric lab reports; orders appropriate/additional lab tests and referrals or follows up as indicated.
  • Reports accidents or anticipated problems.
  • Participates in in-service education and other training programs.
  • Adheres to each and all policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

What We Look For

  • Current NYS license as Certified Nurse Midwife.
  • One to three years experience as Certified Nurse Midwife, preferably in a family planning clinic setting.
