Position Description

About NEW Infectious Diseases: The team at NEW Infectious Diseases is dedicated to improving the health of those living with acute and chronic infectious diseases. Our specialty clinic provides outpatient care for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.

About this role: The Infusion/Vascular Access RN is responsible for placing ultrasound-guided peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), midline and peripheral intravenous catheters and administering therapeutic intravenous treatments.

Responsibilities: 

  • Set up and perform vascular access procedures (PICC, Midline, or Peripheral IV) insertion as ordered and approved by Provider.
  • Understand and use all required infection prevention measures.
  • Use ultrasound guidance for vascular access and line placement.
  • Utilize PICC tip confirmation system to confirm placement of PICC line.
  • Follow up on Chest X-Ray to confirm PICC placement when indicated.
  • Understand and perform complete documentation in patient medical record.
  • Obtains informed consent for vascular access and/or infusion therapy.
  • Educate patients and their caregivers on proper vascular access device maintenance.
  • Address and assist in troubleshooting complications of vascular access devices.
  • Collect routine lab specimens.
  • Administer therapeutic intravenous treatments.
  • Assesses patients throughout the infusion for adverse reactions and vascular access complications.
  • Work independently and provide comprehensive reporting to Providers and Administrator.
  • Communicate and teach with excellence.
  • Willingly maintain and improve knowledge level related to vascular access and infusion techniques.
  • Maintains knowledge and competency level related to infusion therapy.
  • Remain aware of situations with a focus on patient safety and experience.
  • Maintain a positive professional demeanor, with strong self-evaluation skills.

 Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) minimum preferred.
  • Current Wisconsin Nursing License (RN) required.
  • Three years professional clinical nursing experience.
  • Two years vascular access experience.
  • Two years professional experience as an Infusion RN.
  • Current BLS with AED certification.
  • Current MMR & Varicella Titters, TB, Flu and COVID immunizations.
  • Approved professional background screening.
  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, and lift up to 30 pounds independently.
