Position Purpose

At the Connecticut Joint and Spine Institute within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre & PACU unit provides comprehensive perioperative care for patients undergoing orthopedic and spine procedures in a specialized surgical setting.

What You Will Do

• Deliver high-quality pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for patients undergoing joint and spine surgeries.
• Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, initiate IVs, and support anesthesia preparation.
• Monitor patients through Phase 1 and 2 recovery, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, pain control, and readiness for discharge or inpatient transfer.
  
  

Required

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing required.
• Valid RN license in Connecticut
  
  

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• The ideal candidate will have one or more years of PACU experience supporting inpatient surgical recovery
• Candidates with 2 or more years of Emergency Room or ICU nurse experience may be considered if they demonstrate expertise in ICU-level ventilated patient care, critical drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives), and strong assessment skills. Note: Training is not available for candidates without this expertise
• BLS/CPR certification (AHA or ARC)
• ACLS and TNCC certification (support available post-hire)
  
  

Position Highlights And Benefits

• Full-Time – 36 hours/week – Day Shift
• Monday thru Friday, no weekend or holidays.
• 12-Hour Shifts, 5:00 am to 5:30 pm
• Minimal on-call to support off shifts and weekends; frequency is once per 7 weeks or based on unit needs
